ASICS Gel-Nimbus VI $110
The Gel-Nimbus VI is ASICS' standard-bearer for cushioned comfort. The futuristic look of the upper is dramatically different from former versions, with air mesh providing a breathable upper that supports the foot without binding it. The Biomorphic Fit panels in the Nimbus constitute the most effective use of this technology yet applied to an ASICS shoe. The combination of Touch GEL cushioning and the spongy OrthoLite innersole provide a noticeable increase in comfort. The overall combination of key elements, each done well, garners the Nimbus VI this category's gold medal.

From Eastbay:
The ASICS® GEL-Nimbus® VII running shoe is ideal for the neutral or underpronating runner looking for guidance and cushioning from heel strike to toe-off. Biomorphic Fit™ upper provides enhanced fit and comfort while decreasing the potential for irritation. SpEVA® 45 last helps increase rearfoot cushioning and long-lasting comfort. Heel and forefoot GEL® Cushioning Systems offer maximum rearfoot and forefoot shock attenuation in all planes of motion. Advanced Space Trusstic System™ creates a pocket that allows for greater midsole deformation and more efficient foot function. IGS® (Impact Guidance System) uses linked componentry to encourage optimal gait while allowing for natural foot movement. Wt. 12.9 oz.

"I recently purchased the Asics Gel Nimbus. I have been struggling with problems in my planter fascia and Achilles tendon. I usually can get away with a middle tier shoe, but the intensity of my training had taken its toll on my body. Needing to baby my feet, I choose to go with the Asics Gel Nimbus because of its bountiful amounts of cushioning. I also choose the Asics Gel Nimbus because it was not as cumbersome as other well cushioned shoes. I have run in these shoes for the past 3 weeks and have greatly enjoyed the cushioning and fit. In other Asics models I have worn, the upper around the toe box has frayed and worn away rather quickly. I have a wide foot and think that may have led to the problem with the upper. The Asics Gel Nimbus seems to fit a little wider than the other Asics have tried. Consequentially, the fraying does not seem to be a problem. I usually am really rough on the out sole of the shoe, but the Asics Gel Nimbus seems to be holding up nicely.
I really love the Ascis Gel Nimbus and also plan to make it my next running shoe purchase. I highly recommend this shoe, but I must remind everybody that this shoe is for underpronators to neutral runners. This shoe does not supply any medial support. Therefore if you need stability, you need to look at other models."

"For the majority of people that over-pronate these shoes would be unsuitable but for the few that under-pronate they perform superbly. Great shoe Asics."

"The Asics Gel Nimbus, despite its upper-end price tag, is a durable, high performance shoe. I originally purchased the new Gel 2050s, and I got two blisters on each foot when I ran in them. The 2050s had too much arch support and too large of a Duo Max portion for the medial runner. The Gel Nimbus is the perfect shoe for an efficient, light to midweight runner who trains fast. The Nimbus can be used on all types of terrain, proving sufficient for both track and road usage; I had no problems with this shoe in snow or ice.
Due to its light weight, the Gel Nimbus can also be used for road races. Tipping the scale between 8-10 ounces,(based on shoe size)the Nimbus can be a very good cushioned road racer that wont leave you with sore calves for days after your next 5k.
I have found that after running in many brands of shoes, Asics has proven to be one of, if not the most, durable. The gel cushioning system has lasted over 200 miles longer on my shoes than a shoe with EVA cushioning.
I encourage any runner with an efficient biomechanic history to look into the Nimbus as your next pair of trainers. While a cheaper counterpart may suffice for lower mileage runners, I assure you that the price of Gel Nimbus is well worth the amount of use you will receive."
